Description

Welcome to the September Benchrest Match! This competition is designed to test precision shooting skills at 100 yards across four classes: 22lr Scoped, 22lr Iron Sights, Centerfire Scoped, and Centerfire Iron Sights. Competitors will shoot from a benchrest position, or prone on a shooting mat if preferred. Each class will fire three strings of 10 shots, with scores based on bullseye scoring (300-30x possible). This event welcomes shooters of all skill levels, emphasizing safety, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.

Procedures

General Rules

  1. Safety First: All firearms must have chamber flags in actions while not firing. Bring rifles to the bench in case. Follow all range safety protocols, including eye and ear protection.
  2. Eligibility: Open to all club members and guests with appropriate firearms for the chosen class.
  3. Equipment:
    • 22lr Scoped: Any .22 Long Rifle firearm with a telescopic sight.
    • 22lr Iron Sights: Any .22 Long Rifle firearm with non-optical sights.
    • Centerfire Scoped: Any centerfire rifle with a telescopic sight.
    • Centerfire Iron Sights: Any centerfire rifle with non-optical sights.
    • Rests: Front and rear rests (sandbags, bipods, or mechanical rests) are permitted. No one-piece rests or sleds that clamp the rifle.
  4. Ammunition: Competitors provide their own ammunition, compliant with range rules. No tracer or incendiary rounds.

Match Format

  1. Targets and Distance:
    • 22lr Scoped, 22lr Iron Sights, and Centerfire Iron Sights classes use TQ-4 targets at 100 yards.
    • Centerfire Scoped class uses TQ-3/5 targets at 100 yards.
    • Each target has a single bullseye for scoring.
    • Each class is $10 for registration and target.
  2. Course of Fire:
    • Each competitor fires three strings of 10 shots per target.
    • Time limit for all 3 strings: 30 minutes, including sighting shots.
    • Competitors may shoot multiple classes but must register separately for each.
  3. Firing Procedure:
    • Shooters will be assigned to relays and benches.
    • Range commands: “Make ready,” “Fire,” and “Cease fire” will be issued by the Range Officer.
    • Sighting shots (optional, unlimited) may be taken on a separate sighter target before the first string, within the time limits.
  4. Scoring:
    • Scoring is based on the total score across three strings (30 shots total per class).
    • TQ-4/TQ-3/5 targets are scored by ring value (e.g., 10 points for the X-ring, descending to 1 point).
    • Shots touching a scoring ring receive the higher value. Shots outside of the scoring rings are scored as misses.
    • Ties are broken by the highest number of X-ring hits, then by the tightest group measurement (center-to-center).
    • Match Director will collect and score targets after each string.
